In Loving Memory
Dear Friends and Family,
On behalf of Gail, the Girls, and the rest of the family: Thank you all so much for your amazing and loving support. For the meals, the notes, the cards, the flowers, the prayers - thank you.
We will be posting some of the poems, songs, and words from the service here as well as other pictures and memories that portray the great man we all knew and loved.
Also, we have set up this site as a place for you to post your reflections, memories, and stories about Sam. You will find a "Comments" link under each posting where you can view the comments as well as post your own.
Sincerely,
The Stennis Family

When this video was played at the service, it was the first time my mom and sisters and I had seen it. Andy and I had recorded our songs the previous afternoon, and Joey Schlabs had received a stack of pictures and a few old-school video camera tapes as well as some basic instructions and requests from my family. What an amazing job he did!The final video clip is very meaningful to my family, and I want to share the story with you. In that last few seconds of the video, you'll see a portion of footage taken by Sara Stennis Langford, my youngest sister, when my mom and younger sisters moved out of the beloved "Old House on Calumet". This was the house we lived in for much of our childhood, and the house we left sometime in the middle of Dad's eleven plus years of deteriorating health as a result of Metachromatic Leuko-Dystrophy. The clip begins in the kitchen, where Sara scans the then bare and empty kitchen, then makes her way into the garage. What you won't make out is the wall opposite the garage door, where my Dad years before had taken a spare can of paint, and painted a brief message to my Mom in bold upper-case letters that would greet her when she returned home from a trip with the girls: "Welcome Home!", it read. And it stayed there on our garage wall for as long as we lived in that house. Some time later, it was my Dad that was gone on a trip, and my Mom who found some light blue paint lying around somewhere in that garage, and wrote the words you see on our old garage side wall at the end of the video: "Sam, I'm so glad you're home!"Those two beautiful renderings greeted us and sent us away again in our comings and goings for many years in that old house. I doubt Sara could have had an inkling of understanding at the time of what those words and that video could mean to our family this many years later. But thank you so much, Sara, for salvaging a piece of those memories for us. And we are so thankful to you, Dad, for your life and your love. We were so blessed by every minute of your presence with us here. And now, yes, Daddy, we are so glad you're home!
